LOVE IS TRAUMA is a short satirical dating sim that frames romance inside a staged reality-TV experiment, casting the player as a single contestant pursuing a primary love interest through scripted, often bizarre trials; player choices lead to branching outcomes and five possible endings over roughly 1–2 hours of play.
Key Features
LOVE IS TRAUMA presents a reality-TV dating-sim setup that blends satire with player choice and offbeat characters. The narrative branches around one central love interest and offers five distinct endings determined by player decisions. The experience is compact, with about 1–2 hours of play and roughly 15,000 words of dialogue and scenes. Voice acting and layered sound design emphasize comedic beats and character moments. Content warnings are included for flashing lights, sudden loud sounds, emergency scenes, encounters with animals and insects, alcohol use, and heavy tobacco use.
Advantages
Sharp, focused storytelling designed for short sessions while encouraging replays to explore different outcomes. A distinctive premise that satirizes reality television and dating-sim tropes for a fresh narrative angle. Noticeable production support from voice work and tailored audio despite the project's small scale.
Disadvantages
The game contains potentially triggering elements such as flashing lights, loud noises, and intense sensory moments. Its short overall length may leave some players wanting deeper character arcs, and its surreal, deliberately awkward humor may not suit all tastes.
Development Team
LOVE IS TRAUMA was created by a compact indie team led by Robobarbie (director, programmer, sprite artist, and voice actor), with writing contributions from Allie Vera, Cérise (languidnimbus), and Destini; additional voice work from Mike Young and Emilia Beeps, music and SFX by Faefield Productions, and support from QA and audio collaborators. The game was assembled quickly as a small jam project and uses community assets and tools for its handcrafted presentation.
