Black and White images do not contain any clues about the correct colors. The colorization of the photos is determined by the training of the Machine Learning model, but the model does not know the context of the photos. The selected colors are not historically accurate and not necessarily correct.
The black & white photos for the colorization can be selected from the gallery, or they can be shared from the other applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Chrome or Google Photos. The colorized result images can be shared to the other applications, or saved into the gallery.
The app can be used for free by watching Ads. Subscribing the app allows unlimited number of colorizations without interruptions during the subscription period.
The service uses GPU servers to provide the colorization functionality. This means that the source images are sent to a remote location over the network, colorized there and the colorized images are then received back to the device.
For the best result, the source image is recommended to have:
• good quality
• good contrast
• good focus
• and correct orientation
The images not having all these properties may work fine, but some preprocessing (like contrast correction or sharpening) usually improves the result.
Based on DeOldify project.
